Mountain Contracting is a builder that is focusing on energy efficient homes. In order to achieve higher energy efficiency, this home is designed with a continuous insulation outside the home in addition to typical insulation located in the wall cavities. This exterior continuous insulation reduces or prevents bridging which reduces energy bills and increases occupants comfort.

To further increase comfort, a radiant floor heating system has been opted for in this home. Low temperature radiant heat systems are known to be the most comfortable, quite heating systems available. A whole house central air air conditioning will be used in the summer for cooling and whole house ventilation system is there to ensure best possible indoor air quality.

In order to further increase energy efficiency and reduce heating costs an cold climate air source heat pump is being used for majority of the heating loads and all of the cooling loads. This heat pump will create heat down to -20F. On rear occasions when temperature drops below heat pump capacity or when driveway snow melt system is in operation heat loads will be supplemented by the high efficiency condensing natural gas boiler. Boiler will also provide heat in case of heat pump failure acting as a backup heat system for a piece of mind. Heating is controlled using smart room thermostats. These Internet connected thermostats can be controlled remotely, but more importantly will alert home owners if room temperature gets to low or too high preventing costly freezing problems.
